A Cool Building: Union Station
In my opinion, Union Station is the coolest building from where I live. It’s in Missouri, but I live in Kansas; however, I’ve gone there multiple times and it’s not that far, so I think it counts.
It was built in Kansas City, Missouri in 1914, and functioned as a train station. It was closed as a train station in 1985, but it was reopened by 1999 as a museum. Now it’s a train station again, but it still has a free history museum you can walk through.
I personally like seeing Union Station for multiple reasons. It has a very high ceiling (it’s about one hundred feet high), so when you walk in, it feels grand. The ceiling is also painting with small details, and there are enormous chandeliers! Science City is also there – it’s a hands-on science center for kids, and it’s really fun!
There’s also another reason why I like Union Station. Christina – my sister – and I each had a dream that took place in the same location one night. It was Union Station, but the floor was really bouncy and made it feel like walking on the moon. There was also a hallway off to the side that I didn’t go down, but I knew what was there. Christina then explained to me that she did go down the hall in her dream, and it was exactly how I knew it was in mine: curved like and ‘S’ with lots of paintings and a haunted house at the end.
It’s creepy how we dreamed about the same nonexistent place, really.
So that’s why Union Station is the coolest building where I live, in my opinion. If you ever visit Kansas or Missouri, maybe you can see it, too! I hope you can, because it’s very cool to walk through it… when I’m in there, I just want to look up and stare at the ceiling the whole time! Thanks for reading!
